The image below is part of Catherine Penlington's Will written in 1804 which states "I leave Miss Ann Rawsthorne, George Audley's picture".
Catherine Penlington (1763 - 1805) was the sister of Joan Penlington (1755-1779) (who married {T34} Ralph Audley (1747- 1814) in 1775). Joan Penlington's father-in-law was {T31} George Audley (1712 - 1775) and her son was {T35} George Penlington Audley (1776 - 1806) Could "George Audley's" picture" mentioned in Catherine Penlington's will be the portrait to the right, and could the sitter be either {T31} George Audley ot {TT35} George Penlington Audley?

The above portrait by Thomas Beach is titled "George John Audley; Merchant of Liverpool". It is known that the above portrait has been auctioned a number of times between 1932 and 2026. In 1932 the portrait was in the ownerdhip of {AC50} George Audley (1864 - 1932). The auction houses suggest that the portrait is of the "Great Great Grandfather of {AC50}.

There are problems with specifying who is the person in the Portrait by Thomas Beach. The Portrait is dated 1793 The portrait cannot be the "Great Great Grandfather of {AC50} as his name was not known in 1932; see "Audley Pedigrees" by A. L. Reade whose work was funded by {AC50} George Audley. The portrait cannot be {T31} George Audley; as he died in 1775 and the portrait was not painted until 1793. The Portrait cannot be of {T35} George Penlington Audley as he would have been aged 17 at the time the portrait was painted. The person in the portrait appears to be between 40 and 55 years of age So who is in the Portrait? More information on the above portrait can be found in the following file
